I am just looking for clarity in your thoughts of this country. Do you believe that we are in this generation suppose to keep complaining about bigotry when it rarely goes on anymore? It seems that way to me. If everyone just minds their own business and does their jobs and lives their lives in peace where is the problem? Terrorism by foreigners is different, and that still is no reason to hate them because of their race. It is their beliefs that are screwed up right?

As long as black mothers keep telling their kids about how wrong the whites have treated them in the past there will be hate for other races. As long as white people continue to ignore that they are immigrants to this country and that many of their ancestors came here illegally they will continue to try to play God and tell others they can't come here the same way. Racism is alive and well it just takes turns at who it hits. Right now whites face a lot of reverse racism because of things our ancestors did to blacks in the past. I can't change it. Sorry. I never had a slave, never wanted a slave and never thought negatively about a black person yet I get persecuted because of my skin color and the things my ancestors may or may not have done to blacks. Now the newest wave of racism is against the hispanics who come here for a better life just like my white ancestors did. It all goes in cycles but unfortunately racism is still alive and well.

Racism is on the rise in this country. There are many Nazi or KKK groups starting up all the time by ignorant people who have nothing better to do with their time. Don't disregard the threat. We should be aware of what is going on and be prepared to fight it. We should not be scared of shutting down their feedom of speech.
P.S. There are some issues having to do partially but not entirely with race. Illegal immigrationion deals in a large part with hispanic people, but that doesn't mean we should discriminate against hispanic people. It just means we need to tighten the borders to make sure people get here legally. Also, Middle-eastern, North African, South Asian, and Southeast Asian people may be Islamic and therefore possiby may be terrorists, but that doesn't mean we should discriminate against them either. That's the government's job. Then you have North Koreans, Chinese, Cubans, Venezuelans and Russians who we have to watch out for mostly in the political realm of ideas but not so much in the physical realm.

As far as racism is concerned america is far ahead of the rest of the world in eliminating it. We are a country that is a melting pot, where the line between minorities and majorities becomes less every year. Racism would be most prevalent in countries where there is a very high concentration of one type of race. In places like this it's easy to stereotype becasue they have no-one to represent these people there. It truly is sad for a person to hate someone because of their race, if they stepped back and looked each individuals character they would find there's not much difference between them.

I don't think it's over done. There are too many people who would rather sweep the fact that racism is still alive under a rug. All minorities have experienced in some way wether they notice it as that or not. bigotry is not something that rarely goes on and that's speaking from experience. I went to a prodominitely white school that promitted skin heads to cover walls with racial slurs and hoods. This was in the mid ninties so it's not gone. It's there wether you want to see it or not.

If you think that bigotry and racism 'rarely [go] on anymore', then I must assume that you live in a liberal state on the coastline of the nation and are being naive.

You should visit the Midwest. Try Alabama, for example. They still openly hate the Jews, Blacks, and Gays there.

When you get locked out of a business like a dog while white patrons are allowed to stay inside you comment on racism not existing today. When a white man tells your 9 year old son to go back to Africa when he's just standing there looking at a toy display minding his own business you comment on racism not existing today. You walk in an African American or African descent persons shoes before you say racism isn't here today.

well, actually, there's a lot of racism that goes on here. i mean, it's not just the US, it happens in other places too. and no, i think instead of complaning, we need to make an effort to change it. if everyone does that, sure, we'd be fine, but that's hard to do in any world. and no, it's not their beliefs that are screwed up. it's everyone's idea that they are better than anyone else.

I believe racism has gone way over board. You can't go anywhere without someone screaming racial discrimination. (all races included) I think you have the right idea that if everyone minded their own business things would be fine and I think if everyone would stop thinking someone "owes" them something things would be better also.

The vast majority of the really bad events happened generations ago. No one can change the past and no one can change their color so the smart thing to do would be to quit playing it up and live in the present.
