However, the mass of air displaced is not measurable on your bathroom scales.
You could prove this by weighing both items in a vacuum.

1) you say "each indicating a mass of 100kg when measured on a weighing machine"
2) you say "in reality one is heavier than other"
The two statements clearly contradict each other, unless this is some kind of a trick question involving different gravitational fields. In that case the weight in NEWTONS would be indicated differently.

With this info I don't think so. You may need a weighing machine that gives more decimal places. Afterall, one must indeed be heavier than the other, or not?

its one of those riddles where everyone usually says 'cotton' , because a bit of cotton is obviously lighter than a bit of iron . but the trick is that theres a LOT more cotton that iron, because their weights are equal.
