Yes, it really bothers me when people call my children "half." They aren't half. They are whole.

They ask you about your ethnic background because people have a subconscious tendency to put everyone they see into a little racial box. Anytime they see somebody-- on the street, at work, wherever--without even thinking, people racially classify others.

But when they see you, they don't know how to classify you. You're different from the rest because you don't fit into a little racial box as easily as someone who's not mixed. So when new people see you, their mind gets a jolt because they've suddenly realized that they can't pigeonhole you like they could everyone else because you have characteristics from two different races.

I'm tetra-racial (four races), so people have a real problem with me since they can't classify me. It's the unfortunate thing about people, that they're so rude sometimes when asking people about their race.

The only ways I deal with it are:
A) lie or make something up (like that I'm Eskimo or something)
B) tell them the whole truth and suffer through all their stupid questions (not always the most preferable option)
C) make a joke about it and ask them what their race is or ask a rhetorical question
D) my favorite, tell them that I simply can't tell them, because that information is "classified."

It's none of anyones business, and it's rude to inquire. You're probably very good looking and they want to know what the sources of your beauty is. There are many mixed race beautiful people out there. Look at Halle Berry, Lisa Bonet, Malcom, Derek Jeter, The Rock, and Cher just to name a few. Take the Inquisitions as a compliment

It is natural to be curious. Most do not mean to offend you, but are merely curious on your (likely obvious) mixed decendency. If someone is being rude about asking, then it is understandable to be rude back, but if someone is merely curious, then the best course of action would be to satisfy their curiousity and then ask them if they woudl please not ask again as it has been a source of anoyance to you in the past. Most reasonable people will understand and respect your answer. Those who are not, do not waste your time with. My neighbor is of mixed decent. I asked her of her decendancy early out of curiousity and have respected her ever since. She is a mix of several Native indian tribes and black and Irish --- go figure. Most of us are a mix of different peoples if you look back into your heritage.

People are naturally curious. They're not trying to be mean or rude. They just want to know. So just get used to it. You can even have fun with it by making up a race and seeing if they fall for it.

Because they are jealous. You see, we mixed folk, halfies if you will, are the best of bothe worlds. People desire to be like us, but cannot. This is why they are so blatantly rude to us. A simple solution? Burn them all with a flamethrower then hang them from a tree!!! I've done it several times and found it to be quite fun. Whelp, I hope I've enlightened you. Nighty night.

Get use to it.

You have two races to draw from. So in a way you are lucky.

When people get to know you, it will not matter.

I would tell them...we are all mixed. Duh! Unless you are a 100% anything. I can remember when my Grandma (who is Irish) married my Grandpa (who is German) everyone made a bid deal about it...people then are just as stupid as people now asking you if you are mixed. What can I say...people are STUPID. Ignore them.
