I believe it is possible in stage one sleep to answer someone. Often during stage one, the person does not even know he/she is asleep. During this stage, the brain is just beginning to slow activity. It is still very active.

Another possibility is that the person is not actually asleep when they answer the question. It could be that the person asking the question momentarily woke the answerer, and during this time, they answered the question. Immediately after answering the question, the person falls back to sleep. I know you are probably thinking that this is contrary to what you asked, but it isn't. If someone is only awakened for a few seconds before falling back to sleep, it doesn't give the brain time to store that memory. If the memory is not stored, as far as that person is concerned, they never did it.

Statistics indicate that people that talk in their sleep are easier to hypnotize. I knew one lady that took advantage of that fact. Her husband would talk in his sleep. She would talk to him loud enough to hear, but not loud enough to wake up. Once he was able to carry on a coherent conversation, she knew she had him. She would ask him questions. The guy was a pretty nice guy and he wasn't seeing anyone else. She would ask him who he found attractive, besides her (his wife) and then proceed to book him on a guilt trip while the dude was still asleep. The last thing she would do would be to suggest he take her out, or buy her something to make amends for a roving eye.

Hmmm. I wonder how many married guys are going to sleep easy tonight after reading this??

If you are truly asleep, you won't hear a question. If in a state of near-sleep, you will hear a question, and your mind will construct an answer based on it's knowledge and/or your current emotional state, which may be more or a mumble than anything.
That differs from hypnosis, where the brain will spill the beans on whatever it is you are thinking.

it depends if u usually sleep talk or hear a familar voice or just for that night are sleep talking.
did u know that people can actually have a conversation while talking but they wont be talking about the same subject. i.e one could be talkng about a movie n on could be talking bout politics but they will answer when asked a question (but answer in a way they would if they were both talking about the same thing) n respond when needed too
why do u ask

Yes...maybe not all of the time, but it has happened to me. My sister heard me talking in my sleep and started to ask me questions. This is how she found out that I was not a virgin anymore and that I smoked...UGH. It was a long time ago, but now I do that to my husband and sometimes it will work with him too!

Good Luck!! Hopefully this helps you out a little.

Our professor once told us:

"Try talking to a person in a deep sleep, they would surely answer you"

It's similar as to that of getting drunk

"In wine there is truth"

That's because our ears are the last one to function when all of our systems are down

Our mind is awake when we are asleep

i would definitely make a switch to trip if i say a girls name other than who is in the bed with me, most people have a mechanism that is a question and answer system built in to their sleep to resolve things this was the teachings of the Edgar cayce way of solving problems was to think about it and then wake up and find they have answer to the question they had when they went to sleep, like music group meat, let me sleep on it
