First I'd identify the snake. Then, assuming it was non-venomous, I'd call my kids over and we'd all admire it. (We have a lovely pair of corn snakes as pets, and the whole family are reptile lovers from way back.)

We might even pick it up calmly and handle it briefly -- we do this regularly with the (harmless) wild garter snakes that live in our woods. My daughter has a real affinity for snakes, she makes them calm when she holds them. It's something to see.

If it was a venomous snake, then I'd respectfully walk away from it. Snakes don't seek you out and try to kill you -- they only strike when they're threatened or when they're hunting. And since humans are too big to eat (for any but the green anaconda, at least), if you don't threaten them they will leave you alone.

And yes... at least once, venomous or not, I'd have to say "Isn't she a little beauty!" and my eyes would get moist. Crikey, Steve-o... we really miss you, mate.

I'm in front of snakes all the time. We have 10 here. 3 kings, 2 corns, 1 albino rat and 2 asian rats..
If you mean in the wild, then I'd identify it first.. admire it, get a picture and let it go on its merry way.

Snakes are by nature, very shy creatures. Imagine what you must look like to them.

I MISS YOU STEVE IRWIN!!

Depends upon the snake. If it is a snake to fear....make no sudden moves, not make straight eye contact and back away slowly making NO sudden moves or showing any fear ( I can clean my pants when i get outta there)

Oh Lordy, I would freeze and pray, especially if I thought it was poisonous! Then, If it did not appear to be in a striking posture, I would slowly (so as not to further startle the snake) back away. I imagine snakes are not too happy to see us either.

both types venomous and non venomous i would identify, capture and release away from people. i do this with all snakes because many people just kill snakes out of fear- being an animal loving vegetarian- really pisses me off. people with snake phobias- there's something wrong with you

Nothing. Just try not to frighten it.

I love snakes and there's nothing to be scared of. Even a venomous will not bite you without good reason.

Try not to move.
IF you want to try and get away, movein a wavy fashion dont run straight.
It will confus the snake andit becomes difficult for them to chase you.

Depends on what kind it is. If it is a boa or python, nothing much but maybe try to hold it if it is a pet. A rattlesnake or copperhead? Run the other way as fast as I can!! LOL!
