You are a smart guy, because you were able to clearly describe your sittution (1). The next step (2) is figuring out where YOU want to go. Then (3) it is easier to figure out how to get there.
What I found most encouraging is that you did not obsess like everyone does about that person still controling your life. By saying that was then, this is now, and You are in charge of you, you haver isolated yourself from being still tormented by evil doers. Most people just relive their torment indefinitely.

I would first get any GED, which you can do with a test fairly instantly.
Next I would just take any job right now while the market is hot.
Personally, I like the Longshormen who make 100K plus per year and have a strong union. Or Trucking or something.

But it is just putting one step in front of the other, willing to sacrifice a little for a possitve image or consequence in the future. That is Self Esteme, you have it, I can tell, so just put one foot in front of the other, GED, then Job, then Move. and you will get anywhere you need to get to.
It is a much more competetive world than before, and you will see that the road is longer with a lot fewer rest stops than 10 years ago, but you can make it to independence in less than a year.
Finally, your direction is smart, people do not respect dependent people one bit. If you are independent first, your options and the ones you are handed are always better than if you are dependent and week.
Just do what it is you want for you, and know what your want, and the world will make perfect sense.
I just hope I remember to take my own advice, but I can tell you will take 2007 as a chance to do 1,2,3 and be over this phase of your life.

Ok, here is a possible plan:

1. Step 1: You are a unique person with a lot of potential and a lot to offer. So, stop feeling bad, roll up your sleeves and get to work. It will make you feel better.

2. Step 2: Get a job. There are a set of jobs that don't pay that great and don't offer that much. So, they have high turn over. As a result, they are always hiring. This is a good deal for you. Examples: Convenience store clerk. Fast food restraunt employee. Apply to all of the ones in your area. Within a few weeks you should have a job. Your goal: Work hard, impress them, and get 6 months of work experience on your resume. You will probably only work 20-30 hours a week. This is a plus, because it will help with step 3.

3. Step 3. Get your GED. It is not that hard to become a high school graduate. I don't know the easiest way to do this, but a couple places you should ask: 1. Ask the counseling department at your old high school the best way to get the GED. 2. If there is a good community college system in your area, you might ask them. Here is an example:

4. Once you have your GED and your 6 months experience on your resume, you are ready for a better class of job. Keep working hard at your existing job until you get a better one. Ask people you know about jobs they know about. Watch for companies you respect, and then ask if they are hiring. Make sure you have a good resume - either get help from your parents or possibly a friend of your parents that is a manager.

5. Never forget, you've got your whole life ahead of you. Will you have setbacks and disapointments? Sure - but- don't dwell on them. Will you accomplish more than you think you can, have a great time doing it, and meet great people in the work place? Yes!

Best of luck.

I have to assume that there is a reason why your parents have not answered this for you already.

You must get that HS diploma. No question. Talk to the school about your options. You might decide to drop back in, or go for a GED, or something.

High school is a social environment, but that has nothing to do with what a young adult makes of their mind. Once you set foot on a college campus you will know you belong and the real adventure begins.

First, go for your GED. This is equivalent to a high school diploma, and any high school or junior college can tell you how to work for it. Once you have that, enroll at a local junior college and take courses that will transfer to a 4-year school if you wish to continue that far. These days, the key to doing most anything is to get an education.

try attending school...either on line or not but you really need a h.s. diploma or a ged. take it from there. what kind of work would u like to do or what kind of work do you see yourself doing in the future? figure that out then take some courses. i know its hard, i've been there but i had to push myself to get ahead and secure my financial future. you have to take the first step. once you get started, you'll be glad you did and there is no telling how far you will go.......stick with it and good luck!

You have plenty of time to do something with your life. Get your GED, that's the first thing. Start getting some applications for college. When you start getting those letters, you will become inspired. College, to me, gives you time to find out what you want to do, while doing something constructive. Also, grab this book called "The Purpose Driven Life". Excellent read, also very encouraging.

First of all, get a high school diploma - see if the school district has an "alternative" education program - and then see if you can get training as part of it as a mechanic or one of the trades. That way, you can get your HS diploma AND some hirable skills and get out of the rut.

Good luck,

Go get your GED. Then make something of yourself, and prove to all those losers out there who have made somebody miserable, that you do and will make a difference.
