Hell yes.
Sometimes 'real' is too disconcerting, it's too much to handle. Artificial is often safer because it lacks depth which means that it's kind of easier to accept...
I don't really know how to explain it so well even though the words are in my head.
It's like even though you know that something is artificial, it's appearance is so mesmerizing compared to something 'real'.
It's like this movie i just watched yesterday, the old man said: "That's the thing; nobody would ever do anything if they knew what it would take."
Artificial things don't really require much thought and they're certainly relaxing in that sense.
Yeah, the right words for this aren't coming to me :(
I'll edit if i manage to rid myself of this typer's block :P

I think we deem things artificial vs. real ourselves. YOU make it what it is. If it's real to you..... then it is real. It's only artificial if you treat it as though it is something false... fake... disposable. If you see an artificial plant, and it brings beauty to its surroundings, it is not a false beauty... it is real. If you have an artificial leg but it is the instrument that allows you to walk... it is very real.
Love can be artificial vs. real itself. We are supposed to love our neighbor. We are supposed to love Christmas. We are supposed to love puppies, babies and chocolate. But what if we just give that "artificial" smile? What if we say "I love you" over and over to the point that the words lose their meaning?
But what if we have feelings for something or someone that others would never see as real? Something or someone we are never able to put a face to? A voice to? Does that make it less real? Well it certainly isn't artificial. If it brings joy and happiness and love and passion to someone...... it's real.
So to answer your question in a round about way... sure, artificial can be better than real. But real can also be so artificial. Everyone's definition is so different. So for manyof us..... what others see as artificial means they just can't see what the rest of us see. Therefore.... they'll never see just exactly how amazing it can be.

No, because the artificial is made by man. Therefore, it , like us, is fallible.
