I really don't think there is a mean boss. Bosses or supervisors are normally intelligent people just like yourself who are probably under a lot of stress. It could be deadlines, productions quotas, absenteeism, maybe even personal problems (this should not be brought to work). I would suggest that the person who feels mistreated or miss understood by his/her boss to first evaluate the circumstances and make sure that he/she is not the problem. If not, then I would not take it personal. On the other hand if in fact you are the problem, then a little soul searching is in order and a discussion with your boss when he is not in a bad mood.

No, I HAD a mean boss. After putting up with his b.s. for over 10 years, I finally decided that I did not have to have my self esteem shattered anymore and quit the job. This was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I personally hope that one day one of his superiors turns out to be just like him and puts him thru all the misery he has caused to other employees. If he were to catch on fire today, I would stand there and watch the s.o.b. burn.

Do we work at the same job???? LOL.... Only one manager thats keeping me there right now, the rest are all jerks... BTW, I work at a movie theater... I get blamed when a customer asked to speak to a manager and I asked for a manager 3 different times and they didnt come down for 15 mins... Somehow it was my fault cuz I should have offered the next size up for the original price -- And wouldnt that screw up inventory???? They count everything and we're not suppossed to give away anything, but apparently I was suppossed to be a mindreader and know that she would have ok'd it.... OH PLease!!! And the customer wanted to speak to a MANAGER, I am not a MANAGER!!!! Ok, done bitching, but that was the latest thing I got in trouble for...
I feel like most of the managers hate me and looking for a way to get me to quit... And I'm bad too, cuz as much as they dont have a right to treat me like that, I lose my cool also.... I'm horrible when dealing with sticky situations like that, so I'll start yelling back at them, and then walk away crying till I calm down... I gotta learn to stick up for myself better, and let them know this will not be tolerated...
BTW, the top 3 managers that basically run the place -- the house manager, the assistant house manager, and Food Service Director, all loooove me, so its the lower managers that hate me... When it comes down to it, they cant do **** cuz the other managers that count know the work I do... So IDK... But yeah I think its time for another talk with one of the top ones, cuz this shits been happening a lot lately...
And if any of you jerk managers are reading this right now, and figured out who I am, I really don't care... I'm telling it like it is, I'm sick and tired of the bullshit and disrespect... IF you think I did something wrong or I could have handled a situation differently thats fine... Pull me aside in the back and talk to me like a human being... Don't start yelling at me and telling me everythings my fault, w/o even hearing my side of the story!!!!!!! That is unprofessional, and I'm tired of it... But whatever, I think I'm quitting soon anyway....

Welcome to the club! Sad but true, bosses like this exist. Good bosses are positive people, who mentor, teach and help. Mean bosses are people with problems and no where to go.
My advice, keep your options open, always keep an eye out for something better and leave as soon as you can. You can't change these people, but you can change your environment by getting outta there ASAP.
Best wishes!

Sounds like YOU have a mean boss. I don't because I would not stay in a situation with someone like you described-too stressful and toxic-get out of there-your health depends on it!
