Every year, our family plays the white elephant game...I was number 3 and nobody wanted to steal my gift..it was a candle and bath salts that smell like vanilla but others got like Starbucks gift card and cold hard cash so I felt jipped. Today I did a gift exchange with my friend. I got more bath stuff and a wallet I don't really need. I am thinking of wrapping that and giving it to this one girl I am ok friends but I bought her this cute shirt. I kinda want to keep the shirt and give her the bath stuff and wallet. Is that wrong? It makes me feel bad asking this because I know its wrong but I want something I like too =(

Its not wrong, its the thought that counts. if you really like the shirt keep it, I'm sure she will love the bath salts and wallet.!

I don't think regifting is a bad thing - I mean if it's new and you're not going to use it. It would be bad - to give them a half used bottle of bubble bath or something that they would not appreciate. If this girl would actually like the wallet and bath stuff - go ahead. I got jipped this year myself with a St. Joseph statue to help sell my home and a very pathetic looking Christmas ornament that fell apart. I mean if you get total junk - that someone else would not appreciate - then it's not a nice thing to give them. Most of the time, I have a hard time with these elephant exchanges because a gift is supposed to say something about how you feel about a person and be something that they would like - not something that say - you're basically worthless - but I know the white elephant exchanges are just for fun - but still.

If you feel it's wrong then - "it's wrong"!! Give her the shirt!
Then get the Candle and bath salts and take it back to the store and buy you something you really want! Sometimes you just have to treat your self !!! Especially if nobody else has! Have fun!

What you want to do is called "re-gifting" & there's nothing wrong with it. Maybe your family can have a talk about how to play the game next year; to buy non-generic gifts with no gift-cards. Otherwise its just an exchange of money which is no fun. If no one can agree why not just draw a name. When my family drew names all of us would have made up a list of what we wanted & whoever drew a name would look for the list. Now we just take turns naming a charity & give money to the selector to send in as one gift.

If she doesn't already know that you have gotten the bath salt and stuff as a present, she will never know the difference. I think that it is ok.
