my truck has straight pipes with glass packs, the glas packs go up right in front of the rear end and then the pipes go over and out the back. I want to hear then im the cab, how do you think it would sound if i cut the glass packs away from the pipes with a couple inches on each end and then re mounted them in between the cab and the bed then have maybe 15 inches of pipe coming out?

DO IT! It will sound great, and WAY louder in the cab. I did exactly the same thing on my 73 F100 and 06 Silverado. Dump the glass pack output downward UNDER THE TRUCK, NOT OUT THE SIDES, as close to the cab as you can get. On the 74, I could get really close as there is no catalytic converter.

On my 06 Silverado, I scrapped the quiet muffler and put in a 3" core glass-pack keeping the factory tail pipe all the way out the passenger side rear. I was not happy with the lack of sound, so I cut off the factory pipe; dumping it downward just ahead of the rear axle. That's as close as I could get due to the underside config of the truck. It's DEFINITELY louder in the cab now, with the same glass pack and cats.

DO IT!

It would be louder in the cab but that close to the engine may cause excessive heat in the glass packs and you will ruin them. At most I would move the glass packs forward only enough to turn the exhaust end piece to discharge right in front of the rear tires.

If you really want to hear them inside the truck run the pipes inside the cab. run them up between the back of the seat and the back of the cab and exit just above the seat.

the glass packs don.t muffle that much but just enough to pacify the cops

That will work.... but if you want to hear your exhaust inside the cab as well as outside your vehicle you can try a Flowmaster 40 original series. If your into glasspacks only then move them closer to your cab.

It sounds better out the back. If you move them you will hear them in the cab. After a week you will wish you had ear plugs.

There is a good chance that if you do this you will get exhaust fumes in your cab causing you to pass out and crash and burn. That is why they run them out the back!

Install headers instead. Headers & glass packs should sound sweet.
