Try the iPod nano -- Most of the knock off mp3 players break easily and there aren't any accessories for those.
With the iPod nano -- you can get many accessories like professional speakers from Bose, alarm clocks that will use your music from the iPod.
Many malls have Apple Stores where you can shop for all the latest accessories. Not to mention just about every other teenager has an iPod of some sort these days as the "cool" item to have.

The Ipod is probably the best. It doesn't break easily, trust me, I've dropped mine plenty of times and not even a scratch, but it always help to have a case for it. It's easy to figure out even without instructions, which the Ipod does come with, and mine has never malfunctioned. It comes in different colors so chosing one that's not too girly shouldn't be hard. May I recommend the Video Ipod. It might cost more but you can do a lot more with it.

I would preferably choose an Ipod. Its a good brand comes in a variety of colors and you choose different accessories later on that could make it girly or not .But if you don't choose any accessories it's very simple. Gives good functions, lasts a long time and there is many different types of Ipod. There's and Ipod Mini, Ipod Nano, Ipod or an Ipod that can play movies, music, TV shows, games and radio. Any one is fine. Ipod mini, Ipod nano, and Ipod can only play music but are so cool and also include games.

Try the $80 Zen MP3. I just got it for my dad and he can record music straight from his CD player onto it without using the computer. It's really cheap and is basically the same thing as an IPod Nano. Plus you can get good docks for it.

Just get her an iPod like every other teenage girl on the planet. Most girls won't care if it's good quality as long as their friends all have the same one.
Personally, I recommend Creatives and iRivers. I just got the Microsoft Zune and I like it, but installing the software was a total nightmare (and I'm not a beginner computer user).

I assume by asking you're not really looking for an iPod. Also, if she is really into being an individual, other choices might be better. Some teens have issues with conforming to things. Good Luck!
