Okay I know exactly what to do! I have lost our hamsters many times for obvious reasons!

1.) Put his cage on the floor and leave the door open this way he has access to his food and water. Sooner or later like you said he is going to get hungry and will try to sniff or remember his way back to the cage.

2.) Get some carrots or strong smelling favorite treats and lay them around the room. This way he will be drawn to the room near his cage and will find his way back easier. Also he will have some food just in case he cant find his way back quickly.

3.) Here is a way to trap him:

You need a bucket, some good smelling treats such as a carrot ect. and some phone books and some towels.

First place the towels and treats inside the bucket. The towels are for cushion when he falls in the bucket and the treats are so he will want to climb into the bucket.
Second stack the phone books against the bucket so he can climb up the books to the bucket. Placing treats on the phone books will help lure him more towards the bucket.
Third check the bucket in the mornings since he will probably do most of his exploring at night. The bucket should trap your guinepig until you find it in the bucket.

4.) Search in your sisters closet or behind doors or under the bed. Any dark places. These will be the best places that he will hide in. Also when searching for him close or block off the bedroom door so he doesnt escape from the room. Call his name and such. Also it helps to make everyone be perfectly still for a few minutes to see if you can hear the tiniest of sounds. If you can it will help you know the general location he is in. That is how we always found our hamsters.

That is about all the things I can think of right now and things that have worked for us. I hope things work out for you. I'm not sure how long your guinepig will last though. Keep your hopes up and keep searching for him.

Also searching on a search engine such as google or yahoo you can search ways to find hamsters or guinepigs. Tons of websites will show up. that is how I found out about the bucket one. You can also use methods to find hamsters for guineapigs too. I hope this helped you out and good luck!

For extreme measures see if you can get your hands on a heat sensor gadget and go around your house with it and see if you can find it with that.

Good Luck! Bye

Mites is probably the cause, as the scientist said. Mange in guinea pigs can be fatal. So, take your piggie to the vet. Ivermectin can be applied topically (on the skin). I used "Stronghold", which is another version of Ivermectin and just put a few drops on his skin just above his shoulders. There's a website which calculates the dosage based on a guinea pig's weight. But the veterinarian should measure the correct dose for you. Treatment is 1 dose every 3 weeks for a total of 3 doses (that's 9 weeks!). Be sure to clean all the places your guinea pig likes to hang out - his cage, favorite towel, etc. You will have to repeat the cleaning every couple of days until your piggie is fully cured. One of my guinea pigs developed mites and I found that a bath with very gentle shampoo made him feel a lot better. Just use warm water and don't rub the shampoo into his skin where he's sore. If you can find a conditioner with lanolin, it will make his fur soft and also make his skin feel better. I have longhaired piggies, so conditioner is always a must! The bath, by the way, was to help him FEEL better. But it does NOT CURE mange. For that, you need Ivermectin, like the scientist said. Ringworm is unlikely. If your guinea pig had ringworm, you would probably get it also. But if you have a blacklight handy, you can shine the light on your guinea pig. Ringworm flouresces (gets shiney) under a blacklight. The best treatment for ringworm is conofite spray, which is approved in cats. Like the scientist said, you need to get your guinea pig to the veterinarian right away. Besides mites being harmful, the itching and soreness is probably driving your piggie crazy. Treating mites is not expensive and your guinea pig really needs you to get him to the veterinarian this afternoon or tomorrow morning at the latest.

OK, first unplug anything electrical in your sisters room, as if your guinea pig is anything like mine it has a tendancy to chew wires!

Next sit quietly and listen for any shuffling and scratching

If you hear nothing look under the bed, drawers, cupboards etc. Get your sister to stand opposite from were your searching and see if she can see any movement...be careful when moving things around though!!
Look under clothes, teddies etc.

if you still cant find him your just gonna have to sit quiet, he will move eventually! Try leaving things like fresh grass (make sure its washed properly) or cucumber DONT give them lettuce as its bad for their health!

good luck!

Well my hamster got loose in my room, and he hid under a lot of drawers...but dont panic.it will most likely survive. Try checking under the bed. If you opened the door, it probably could have run out..but just dont panic. try being very quiet and if you hear noises(scratching, yelping..etc.) it might be your guinea pig. Hope this helps.

Get some lettuce or carrots, place them on the floor near, but not right next to, any hiding places. (Don't feed him lettuce too much or too often however). --- Sit quietly and he should eventually smell the lettuce or carrot, ... when he comes out to get the food, you have to try to grab him or block him fast, because they run away extremely fast. Good luck ;]

He can survive for a while without food and water. Eventually he will have to come out for more, so try putting a trail of food bits out for him and he will eventually sniff them out. Once he emerges, he can be caught.

I hope you don't have a cat or a dog for obvious reasons?

Lay out some food in the middle of the floor so it gives you time to catch him when he comes out.

Good luck

Piles of clothing would be my first suggestion to look or near a heat register.
