It was only a matter of time before time finally caught up with them. I believe that they are forced to some degree to catch up with the rest of the world.

Amish are people too and people will be people. We are not that different from one another. One of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life was a standard Amish buggy (behind a horse of course)... with two fuzzy purple dice hanging from the rearview mirror. How's that for a good sense of humor? I wholeheartedly agree that an Amish person who would call you a "corporate sucker" or whatever is just a disgruntled Amish person. The ones I bought goods from were totally nice to me. And after that tragedy not long ago where the kids were shot? So many of the public statements were about forgiveness. Just like any other group, they are not alike and don't all think alike.

Why wouldn't they shop at Wal-Mart? It's the easiest way to save a few bucks.

Hold on a sec. First you need to understand that there are several different "bands" or "Sects" of Amish and they don't all believe in the same things. For example some believe they can't have cars and others believe they can. It depends on the "Sect" they come from as to what they believe. It gets kind of complicated so if you really want to know about them you may want to do a bit a research. As for the ones who are saying we are corporate suckers, they are probably disgruntled Amish.

Their are three different sects of Amish: The Menonites, The Amish and anouther whose name excapes me at this time. I grew up knowing both Menonites and Amish. The Menonites are the ones who shun electricity and will not be seen in such a place as Walmart. It is against their religion. The Amish are more progressive in their nature. It is likely Amish who you saw in Walmart. Their is also a tradition in both cultures by which the young "sow their oats" and experience the outside world. It may have been some young not yet fully initiated youth who was seen in Walmart. A god source to read up on the Amish and the Menonites is here: http://religiousmovements.lib.virginia.edu/nrms/amish.html
It is quite educational.

I think that the Amish still have to pay sales tax so when you say that, "...and they still shop at walmart." that wouldn't justify them not getting certain other tax breaks. And about you being a corporate sucker . . . who is driving a car and who is still using an open air buggy that lacks an air freshener?

I have seen the amish staying at a hotel , I saw them again riding a razor scooter (not motorized) in a wildlife park in Tennessee. One woman riding had to be at least 300 pounds.

If some Amish called me names I'd beat the hell out of him. Not like they fight back and if they did I doubt they'd know how to fight.

'tis a black eye! The english swung his fist mightily! 'ere did I get a bruise!
