Im a catholic but not a true catholic. I hardly ever go to mass maybe for a funeral or a wedding just to pay my respects. I dont want to be a hypocrit and just go to mass when i need God or anything like that. My cousin will have a baby in January and I know that she will ask me to be the Godfather. The thing is that i dont go to mass and if i do for the baptizm, does that mean im a hypocrit? Im ready to tell her no, even if its going to hurt her but im not ready to be a godfather. I love God but I just dont want to go to mass for convenience. Need answers. What do you think?

If you do not practise the Faith, then it would not be right for you to be the godfather. Godparents have the responsibility to pass along the Faith to their godchildren. How could someone who does not practise his own faith pass it along to his godchildren?

This being said, do not think that you are a bad person just because you do not go to Mass. Christ is a forgiving God. But He does want you to enter into a deep relationship with Him, because He knows that He alone can bring you true, lasting joy. If you can, please make the effort to go to Mass, at least on Sundays. You will find that this will work wonders in your spiritual life. Then, you will be fit to become a godfather, for you will be passing on to your godchildren the Faith that you yourself will be living.

Good luck in your search, and may God bless you.

HI, I go to mass almost every Sunday and i say just because you don't go to mass every Sunday doesn't mean you can't be a Godfather. I think of a Godfather as more of a title. There isnt really an obligation to really do anything but at least have some relationship with the Godchild. If you go to the baptism it doesn't make you a hypocrit at all. You are going to the baptism because it is a special event for the child. Besides if you think about it think how many children hat egoing to mass and have to go anyway. Hope this helps!

To be honest, I go to a catholic mass on Sundays. Sunday is definitely okay for that but it doesn't mean that it would make a real person a hypocrite. Just give some time with a piece of your own mind or feelings. Then, you will go ahead and do whatever it is possible for you. It don't even matter to me if that is how you will feel.

My whole family is catholic and go to church EVERY week. I am the godfather of my baby brother and I'm Agnostic. Haven't gone to church in a long time (excluding the family reunion on christmas mass). I'm 20 and i still take this role seriously. It doesn't matter if you are or arn't catholic, just care for the kid and teach him right from wrong. Hope this helps.

Be the godfather, go to the baptism to support him. No one should care if you don't go to mass every week. You can still believe in God without having to go to mass everyday.

I am not of your faith, but know the feeling of not wanting to be a fake. Come as you are, when you feel the need. Never judge yourself, thats God's job. Who knows, you might like it. Please don't hurt the couple who offered you the highest confidence, of them in you. Show God's love in you. Go, don't walk, run. You will thank yourself, and God the next morning. Peace, Holla
