That damn thing is so annoying. It's driving me insane. It just goes around on it ... all night!!!! My mom said I have to keep the cage in my room because it's my pet and blah blah blah. How can I stop the wheel from making so much rattleing noise? Any extra quiet ones I can buy? I cant take it off because hes been eating too much food and is getting chubby, so he needs to loose some weight!

Oh how adorably annoying! lol It must be sleeping all day and exercising all night...did you try put oil around the wheel thing? Maybe that will help make it quieter.

this is what they do. do not take the wheel out at night as suggested. some wheels just need to be oiled as mentioned--olive or cooking type oils only. or just taken apart & cleaned. depending on what kind of cage u have, there are lots of wheels that are more quiet than others that u can try. S.A.M. workout wheel is a good one. i've heard wodent wheels are good too. what brand is your cage?

also buy him a ball & let him run in it in the evening while u r awake. he'll run less on the wheel when he's used this. plus most are very happy using the balls & should every day. use tape on the lid though & let them back in the cage every hr for water break. he'll chew when he wants to run more.

try and convince your mom to let u put him in another room at least just at night if the noise doesnt stop.

Hamsters are nocturnal by nature, that means they are active at night.Spray some cookingoil on the wheel, and re-spray it when it starts squeeking again.Or simply drop Olive oil on the wheel.
If the wheel is his only amusement, and the only way he can get his exercise, you will have to allow him this pastime. Can you keep a radio on real low next to your bed?Something that plays soft music,so the wheel dont keep you from sleeping?
Have you considered getting him some other toys aswell, like tunnels,balls,etc...toys that dont make noise? Then you could take the wheel out at night and leave the other toys in there for him.In the morning, put his wheel back in.He will be a happy fellow either way.

Probably put it in an exercise ball, but your hamster might bump into a lot of things in your room and it might make a bumping noise. try exercising it during the day and probably take the wheel out of the cage at night and put it back in during the day. That will probably help.

use some oil (the one we use to cook) and put some oil on the wheel (where you stick the wheel to the cage)......in that way it will be lubricated and will do less noise.

also consder in putting the cage in another room at night because hamsters are nocturnal (sleep during the day and wake up at night)

if their wheel annoys you take it off the cage and put Vaseline were the wheel attaches to the cage then slide the wheel back on over the Vaselined spot

Try spraying the axle of the wheel with Pam or some other cooking oil spray. Don't use WD40 or any other industrial spray as it would poison the hamster. You may have to respray it regularly, but it sure help when my hamster did the same thing.

These pets are nacturnal, I would recommended removing them to a different area of the house when you go to sleep at night.
