You may be able to get a drivers lisence using your student visa. While I do not believe you can obtain an SSN, since you are not a citizen of the United States, you may be entitled to the privledge of driving and could obtain a license using your visa. I would talk to your local DMV office.

If you're a student from abroad, you can use an International Driver's License if you have one. I've had my license for so long, I can't remember if a social security number is a requirement or not. Best thing to do is call the DMV and ask them the requirements.

You should be able to get a SSN with your int'l student visa. You need a number of documents. Your SSN does not need to be present, but it has to be listed in order to comply with some law concerning dead-beat dads.
