lamstitch is right.. It is used to heighten oral pleasure.. I don't know if it works or it's just a myth

The origin for the tongue ring is prostitutes (yes it is a fact). It was to increase sexual stimulation during oral sex. To call it some fashion accessory is naive at best.

They're simply an accessory, used to show off and look cool.
