Well, my son is almost 18 months old and STILL nursing (the little pest) and I usually have one cup of coffee in the morning, and sometimes I'll have one can of Coke later in the afternoon. But NO caffeine, not even tea, after about 3PM or he won't sleep till midnight. Also, I didn't drink any coffee/caffeine (except green tea) until he was like 6 months old and on solids. But honestly, I mean there are harmful chemicals in your breastmilk no matter what, we're all exposed to this crap every day it's in the air, the tap water, canned foods, fresh produce, hygiene products, you name it. Don't feel guilty about 1 or 2 cups of coffee a week. Avoid espresso.

Yes, its OK. Unless you are consuming more than 3-4 caffeinated beverages per day there isn't a whole lot getting into your breast milk. If you notice that your baby is becoming fussy or having trouble sleeping, cut out the caffeine and see if it makes a difference. I drank coffee while breastfeeding both of my sons and they are fine and there were no effects. New moms are notoriously tired all the time and if coffee helps I say go for it. Just do so in moderation.

If you are breastfeeding your baby, you must know that whatever you drink or eat the baby will take in from your milk. Drinking coffee is not the best thing you want to drink if you are breastfeeding, and the reason why is: you have no idea what your baby could or couldn't be allergic to, so I wouldn't chance it, second you have no idea how the coffee in your system will affect the baby when he/she is drinking the milk from your breast. And if you are breastfeeding and you are drinking coffee think about what is may be doing to the baby insides, or the baby heart. If I where you I would call my family doctor just to make sure if it is okay or not. I pray all goes will, and congrats on being a Mommy( God has blessed you will a true angel)

Technically, it would be ok...although not recommended. Did you drink coffee while pregnant?

My daughter was SO fussy when I first started nursing her. I cut out caffiene completely and it made a huge difference. I think that as new mothers we need all the help we can get. So, if it helps to drink a cup or two per week, there really isn't anything wrong with it. Watch your baby for excessive fussiness or gas though. Your baby will let you know. :)

DEPENDS ON THE BABY

with my 1st son I could eat and drink whatever I wanted: hot wings, hot peppers, caffine, chocolate, spices--nothing bothered him.

with my 2nd son who is almost 6 weeks old I've already discovered I can't have caffine (this means no chocolate!!! YIKES!!) no carbonated bevrages, no eggs, no beans, no prenatal vitamins and I'm eliminating milk as of today in hopes that that will help some too. But he is a very high needs baby with reflux.

I can however have decaf coffee (oe at east I haven't noticed a reason to cut it out yet)

Just try it and see, if baby isn't effected by it, then enjoy!

HTH

its fine, just watch for a reaction and don't get dependent on it (like me. lol!) in case the babe has a reaction and you need to eliminate caffeine for a while to see if that was what the baby is reacting to.

i drink a cup each morning and a latte a couple times a week, and nurse my 22 month-old. I cut it out at first, but added it back and did not notice a difference in my already fussy baby. I had to because he NEVER slept even with no caffeine in the diet;-(

Most of the time Its ok to drink just one cup of coffee. But if you drink too much then it will affect the milk and the baby will overdose with too much caffine. so only one though!

As far as I know, you should not be drinking any type of caffeine while breastfeeding and even decaf coffee may not be good for the baby. that is something you need to discuss with your doctor.

Coffee has ingredients that can be harmful
