If you notice someone leaving a small child alone in a car take the time out to observe. Call the police. Keep track of the amount of time that the person is gone. Get the license number. If they leave before the police get there give them the info. Maybe they will do something about it, maybe not. Hopefully they will show up before the person leaves.
If its a very hot day and its a stores parking lot, go inside and ask to talk to the management or security and explain whats up.
Im certain if the police and children services gets involved it would be considered child endangerment and neglect. They could charge them with something.

When someone wants to know something, they shouldn't be berated for asking like many are doing here to the one questioning. Knowledge is power!

The answer to this depends on the state you live in. Some consider the age that a child is old enough to be left at home might be a good indication a child can be left alone in a car for a short time. Each state has different laws on this. Some states have NO LAWS on this. Yes, NO LAWS on this.

Not all people asking a question are doing so because they want to leave their child alone in a vehicle as some indicated. They might be asking because they want to know when it would be advice to call the police on such a thing, or they might know someone who is doing this and want to know if they are breaking the law. They could be doing research for a paper they are writing. People need to stop judging.

To say every child, without exception, should not be left unattended as many state in their answers here, does not take into consideration the ages of children are from infancy up to 16 being considered "children" many times. Most young teens can indeed be left alone in a parked vehicle!

Of course, many in that age group could be considered intellectually challenges and even at 16 should not be left alone in a vehicle.

So this is not an easy question to ask an answer for as some think here. Each person should check with their police department (A simple call would do.) of go online and see what their state considers a legal age for a child to be left alone in a vehicle.

It is wise to know. It is not stupid to ask or is it wise to state generally in an answer, "Do not do it."

Technically (meaning "the regulation"), sure. it somewhat is an engaging argument, although. it style of feels greater volatile to stroll in the time of an icy parking zone than to take a seat interior the motor vehicle for in basic terms 5 minutes, appropriate? yet it somewhat is not somewhat risk-free to go away the toddlers interior the motor vehicle, the two. First, you have grew to become off the motor vehicle. So, it gets chilly. once you are not on time, the temperature interior the motor vehicle will drop. If the keys are left everywhere interior the motor vehicle, teenagers can get 'em. you have reported you have bumped off them, although. doors locked? a toddler of three or 4 can particularly get out of their vehicle sear, climb over, and open the front door (which has no toddler protection lock). i understand... it somewhat is tempting. i've got wanted to do it many circumstances. yet, whether i replaced into specific my teenagers could be risk-free, I do in basic terms no longer do it. If for no different reason that somebody is going to stroll via the motor vehicle, see unattended teenagers, and contact the police or toddler protecting amenities (particularly at a school!). Do you surely need CPS to look at your place to interview you, learn your place, communicate on your friends approximately what style of be sure you're? it may no longer happen. yet it ought to. you besides mght say you have 4 teenagers. Are all of them your toddlers? If no longer, you have have been given an entire different situation with the different mothers and fathers.

If it isn't illegal then it should be!!

It is illegal to do it in England. I have reported someone for doing this and they have ended up in court on neglect charges.
You wouldn't leave a pet in the car with no windows open, that is definately against the law, regardless of the time of year, so the same law should be set for leaving a child in the car unsupervised.
Common sense should tell the parent that it is a very dangerous thing to do so even if it isn't illegal, they should definately have some kind of charge brought against them to stop them from doing it again in the future.
some people just shouldn't have kids!!

Yes and no. There is no LAW saying just that, however it IS illegal to neglet your child. Neglet obviously is a subjective word, so it would be at DHS / Judge's discresion.
