You need to install 2 of them at the same time. I don't get why? and is this true? I don't believe it....................................

oh, and all four slots are filled now. all with 240 mb or somthing like that. the CP can handle 4 gigs, I just want one 240 taken out, and a plain gig replaceing it.

Older motherboards requred all the RAM channels to be full when installing Ram Modules. The newer ones dont require this anymore. 4 year old gateway probably does require you to fill each bank and it also probably only supports 1GB Ram max.

He might be correct, though on some older computers that's not the case. Try going to http://www.crucial.com and use their tool to help you determine what you need. While Crucial's prices aren't the best, their service is and quality of RAM is.

its not true, they will still function, it's just better to upgrade both so they are running the same speeds.
