Re is taught throughout primary school ,children learn about a variety of religions. However we are a christian country and therefore christianity is taught as the main religion. I am tolerant of other faiths and beliefs but if you live in a christian country you should abide by our rules. In fact I'm a little tired of the PC brigade saying other wise. If I lived in a muslim country I would have to follow their rules and rituals you should do the same here.

In mainstream education in england all religions and their texts are taught to all (hopefully this will lead to tolerance) - but schools are secular institutions and actually promoting any religious texts should be left to the religious leaders / preachers / priests and so on, for those that have or want a faith.

How do you mean? Students are already taught about Islam in general RE lessons alongside Christianity.
There are differences, depending on area, but the principles are similar. Students are taught about Christianity and the other principal religions in the area.

I think we would be better off concentrating on teaching and learning (for the two are best not separated) spelling, writing fluently, using capital letters and plurals and, perhaps, typing and checking our work for errors...
Believe me, the Koran can wait.

Absolutely, but the one who teaches it should be well educated in the meaning of the verses as well, as many verses can be misinterpreted otherwise. Also Islamic history should be better explained in world religion classes.

I do not know of any schools in the US (public schools) that teach the Bible. I am aware of the Bible being used as a book of literature and being taught that way.

No this is England Our religion is Christian.I have no objection to people having whichever religious views they wish, but do not presume to change our traditions to meet yours. If you come to this country you must adapt to us - not us to you. If you asked the same question vice versa in saudi or iran what would the answer be.

As far as I know, they don't offer Bible studies in most government schools, so they wouldn't offer Koran studies either.
