I just got my tongue pierced last Friday..today is day 9. There is hardly no pain at all when they pierced it, matter of fact I didn't bleed at all either, but the aftercare is a pain. Day 3 and 4 were the hardest...the most painful part about it all is the eating factor..you have to live on soup for a few days! You have to be ready to baby your tongue and I mean baby it!!! Whoever said use listerine, trust me don't do it. Your supposed to use non~alcohol mouthwash. Everyone is going to say something my best advice to you if you really want to do it is not come to this forum because there are some real jerk~cakes on here who are just rude, ask your piercer!
Heres a great site
www.safepiercing.org you can look up piercers who follow safe piercing.org's guidelines and everything.
I think the pain depends on the person.
As far as oral hygeine goes be ready to be constantly washing your mouth out with mouthwash and ice water. It's so worth it though in the end!

Have you ever really bitten your tongue really really hard? Multiply that by ten. Know that 1 in 4 people have infection problems, and some require emergency room visits, and if your tongue swells you will need a tracheotomy, which is a tube inserted into your throat just below the Adam's apple so you can breath. People have died from getting tongue rings. Nerve damage is common (trouble swallowing, loss of sense of taste, slurring words, etc) Nearly 100% of the people who have one has some sort of teeth damage...not to mention the initial reason for the tongue ring (which has to do with oral sex)...so, what sort of message does getting a tongue ring send out into the world? "I am a person who is often engaging in oral sex who doesn't care about my teeth who is demonstrating very poor medical judgment." That is what you are conveying, whether or not any of that is true, that is the message you are sending. This is no personal judgment of you, as I don't know you, but objectively, that is the perception and the facts. Some things are true whether or not you believe them. I just hope no one is pressuring you into doing this.

The piercing itself didn't hurt, but putting up with a swollen tongue for a few days sucked. Ice chips, Listerine, and slobbering were all just so fun. After a while, you don't know it's there. I can't remember how long it took for mine to heal, but it wasn't that long.

I have had it done and in the area they pierce, there isn't a nerve so it doesn't hurt. What is bad is the way they pull out your tongue and clamp it in a clamp and you can't swallow so you are drooling all over yourself. It swells up for about two weeks and you have to constantly rinse your mouth in mouth wash.Dentists say it is bad for the enamel on your teeth and I know for a fact it gives you bad breath and you can't eat or speak correctly and if you want respect from respectable people,FORGET THAT.BAD IDEA.

okay from experience it doesnt hurt it just feels like your getting your ear pierced but its on your tongue, it takes about 6 wks to completly heal, as long as your brush it when you brush your teeth your fine, they tell you everything to keep it safe and not to get it infected, just stock up on listerine and ice cream(will swell up the first couple days) before you go. good luck

I diddnt think it hurt. And you just make sure you brush your teeth like normal use i think they said listerene, and there this one gell you can get to use to clean it. the only thing is try not to play with it to much cause you can chip your tooth, or tear it, i sometimes still do that like when i eat. its not bad but its just iratating. but i diddnt think it hurt bad.
