Shirley Jackson (The Lottery, The Haunting of Hill House, etc) not only continued to write after having children, she wrote a book about it called "Life Among the Savages". :) A woman would have to make more of an effort to find time for writing after having children, especially if the father was unsupportive or not around, but it certainly wouldn't stop the ideas from coming.

Almost every female author had children, or having children inspired most women to write. I have never heard of any female writer's stop writing when they had kids. I think have kids would change your views of the world.

Actually, Anne Rice also had a daughter, besides her son Christopher. Christopher is a writer himself. Rice's daughter died when she was young, and inspired the character Claudia, who also died. Rice once said it was her way of dealing with her grief for her daughter. So, although tragic in this case, children can be an inspiration, and as in Christopher's case, vice versa.
