Arguments happen. It's just something that you have to accept. They can be healthy and therapeutic.
To avoid screaming matches, it's important to remember that everyone has their opinions, and that sometimes, we have to agree to disagree. It's also important to learn how you argue and how the other person argues. Are you fair arguers? If not, you might both want to work on your communication skills. Everyone has to, so there's nothing odd about it.
It's also important to recognize when the other person is at their breaking point. Go to neutral corners, and cool down. Resume the discussion only after you are sure you won't pick up where you left off.
Also consider writing out your views. My boyfriend and I have found that we communicate better in writing when dealing with passionate issues.
Good luck to you. Good question.

Since it takes two to argue, the best way to avoid an argument is not to participate in it. When you see that discussions are escalating into a shouting match, simply walk away! You're not going to get your point across, or make the other person see things your way, so why bother? It's not worth it for your mental health or your blood pressure.

The very best way to avoid an argument is to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. Not voicing your opinions is a great place to start. I talk to people ALL the time who I think are wrong on a variety of issues. That's fine, I know I am right and that is enough for me. Eventually, they too will see that I was right. I can wait.

Just tell them that the time isn't right to talk about it. If they don't like that answer simply walk away or change the subject. Also tell them life and time is too short to be arguing about things. Tell them that you both need to Cherish life with positive vibe.

Say..."I see your point, but I have a different opinion." If they don't like that, say that "opinions are like fingerprints of the mind." They are all different and we all have them. Just let them know that you accept and respect their opinion. Then agree to disagree. Or...you could just ignore them. That always pisses people off more though. But at least you won't say anything you'll regret. Or...you could agree with everything that they say while secretly plotting against them. Hahaha, I have a lot of experience.

To avoid the people, and the topics, which cannot be swayed. One cannot change a person's mind who does not wish to change. What they cannot accept they will not accept; and if they can accept, then the acceptence will come irregardless. Respect others, but do not allow their respect to compromise your own.

By deciding that like YOU, they're not going to change either. That and deciding that what your actually fighting about just isn't worth it. I mean, who really cares who did something last or believes what? As long as they don't mistreat you, so what?
