Why do they call the NFL Pro-Bowl player of the game the Dan McGuire Award?

Dan McGuire was a bust! Why would they name it after him? Please give me a reference...

For the late Dan McGuire, who was a Honololu Advertiser sports writer in Hawaii. I remember reading some of his articles when I lived there. Mentioned in the last line of the story from the below link.
