yes saltwater crocodiles have been found up to 100 miles out at sea. some species of crocodile have developed the ability to live in salty water. alligators, caimans, and gharials however have not. the largest saltwater crocodile captured was in the bay of bengal (off the coast of india) and was 27 feet long. when i was in australia i saw some and they are definetly the biggest reptile you'll see. and what the one guy said about crocidilians only living in shallow water isnt true. saltwater crocs like to go far away from the coast to avoid the surf. they prefer placid water. they also live in freshwater and are scattered from australia all the way to indonesia and parts of asia.

Yes there are saltwater crocs...In fact they are the biggest of any of the aligator and crocodile family. They have been known to grow 25 feet long and over 1 ton in weight. It is even rumored that they have hunted and killed great white sharks, although this is highly speculated throughout the science community. they have been observed feeding of the carcasses of dead whales and other marine life, but usually closer to shore. they have even been seen hunting sea turtles.

The croc is found in suitable habitat throughout Southeast Asia and northern Australia. These reptiles are excellent predators and have few natural enemies. Bony plates, called osteoderms, form an almost armour-like protection in their thick skin. so i don't think a shark would do any harm to a croc
