I just bought a optical wireless mouse and it sucks, it's reaction time is much slower than the wired mouse and it takes like 2 times longer for the computer to pick up the signal and start to move the cursor.

I would never be tethered by a wire again for a mouse. I love my wireless optical. The battery solution is partially solved by buying a Logitech mouse. There are two features that help: the mouse powers itself down when not used for a while.. .just move it to turn it on. The 2nd is an on/off switch that you can use if you are going to be away from home. (I leave my computer on all the time so the mouse would pick up the signal). Using rechargeable batteries and having one set charging is always a good idea. Logitech says you can get up to 8 months of life. See link.

I hear with all the stealing going on, you are less safe usinng virtually anything wireless. Why? Because using something "wireless" can be listened to, used without your knowledge. People can get into your computer without you ever knowing it. I prefer the optical mouse, without the "ball" which rarely needs maintainence, except to wipe off the light underneath it to keep it clean. In fact, I would suggest don't use anything wireless pertaining to computers. I know, all those wires are a pain in the wherever. But, several electronic store (Office Max, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc...) have told me these signals on wireless can be intercepted, and you computer can be hacked or literally taken advantage of. I think"PCWorld Magazine" if I'm not mistaken has done several articles about this topic, and even about wireless "routers" on this topic. I suggest the optical mouse, wired speakers, wired cameras, USB wires for cell phones, for obvious security reason. Think of it this way...through a wire you aren't "broadcasting."

My husband talked me into buying a wireless optical mouse and wireless keyboard and it sucks. The optical part is fine, I don't find that it takes longer. But the keyboard and mouse absolutely GOBBLE batteries and there is no warning when it goes dead, just all of a sudden you're typing and -poof- no keyboard. A week later then -poof- no mouse. Seriously it seems like I change the batteries every couple of weeks.

the battery part sucks.
I had a wireless mouse (I forgot which brand it was, but surely it wasn't a good one) and I changed its battery every 2 weeks.
now i have a Microsoft wireless mouse and the problem went away. i change the battery every 3 to 4 months, while keeping the same amount of usage.
so i guess it just depends on its brand.

I have a stressed out gaming mouse. in case you want severe decision in a mouse and precision then a on the spot mouse basically won't be able to diminish it. i do not even word the cord. It would not get interior the way in any respect.

No question....WIRED, if you have a house like mine with six people who use the computer in a day....not only will the batteries run me a fortune in replacing them but when someone is not "done" they would "hide" the damn thing on you. (It happens with the t.v. remote too.)

I like neither. I'm more of a touchpad and trackball guy.
