think of the economy

I didn't feel very Christmassy this year because it was hyped up too much and I don't think anything can live up to such a big hype. I did what I usually did volunteered in a shelter for homeless people and I went to midnight mass, but other than that not much else except gave presents to loved ones.
I totally agree it is hyped up consumables and big corporations, Santa's outfit was changed in the 1920's because of the Coke Cola company and I heard the most ludicrous thing a large man wearing red trousers and had a white beard (a customer) was told to leave Disneyland because they own the rights to Santa's costume. What is the world coming too?

Because it's an opportunistic time for retailers to capitalize on the sentiments of the season. In other words, the hype is there to get consumers into a buying frenzy so that they'll give the economy a shot in the arm and make the bottom line for retailers look blacker at the end of the year.

,It's because people have forgotten 'The True Meaning' of Christmas. When I was a child, Christmas, was for celebrating the birth of Christ, but over these past 20 years or so it's been nothing but a money making racket for the big businesses. Ever since the banks made ' loans and credit cards ' so easy to obtain, Christmas , has gone commercial and I would suspect that 50% of children think that it's just for receiving presents. !!!

Too many people seem to forget what the Real meaning of Christmas is all about. It's not about gifts, Santa Claus or Frosty the Snowman. Sure they are all cute when we are little, but the real meaning of Christmas is CHRIST! During November and December, this is when all departemtn stores wants people to shop shop shop ! The department stores are the ones who help put the stress on so many people during these 2 months! Sorry to write a book, but this is how I feel. And I didn't mean to offend anyone with anything I said, I stated my opinion that is it!

Expections, big, big build up especially if children involved. I get all worked up etc, that everything is going to turn out ok, all this worry and hype for just one day. And then. We've spent a fortune, had to see family we don't really want to and havent all year, and then, its all over! Thank God!!

Why is this question in Celebrities?

And it's Christmas... not xmas...

It's hyped because some people celebrate the birth of Jesus...

Some people use it to give gifts...

Some people use it to complain....

Because of all the false happiness people put behind everything - presents, ornaments, lights, ect... - around Christmas time.

Jesus was born on Christmas and the wise men brought him gifts, so I guess that is why we give gifts and make a big deal out of Christmas.
