Actually the Civil War was fought because the south left the Union. The issue was states rights vs. federal governments rights. Lincoln wanted the States to remain united. The fact that slavery existed in the south was not a main issue at the beginning of the war. The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves at a later date.
A Confederate Flag of any type is part of our Nations history, like it or not and it does not represent slavery. Most of those who fought for the South did not have slaves. General Lee himself, did own them but freed them. He also struggled with his decision to join the south and lead the Army of Northern Virginia.

Please note that I do not nor ever would agree with slavery, the klan or any type of racism.

The issue that separated the Confederates from the rest of the nation was slavery. Therefore, the Confederate flag is a symbol of slavery.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of an armed rebellion against the United States of America. All the Americans who died to preserve our country see it as a symbol of something that almost destroyed our country. It is in the same category as Robert E. Lee who led the army of the rebellion. (It is considered a social error to mention his name at West Point.)

Because the Union army already kicked the Confederates butts in a war that split families and pitted brothers against one another.

It represents slavery and the Klan and American racism at its worst.
