Most recent polls show only 33-36% of Americans approve of his performance, vastly down from the 84-88% he enjoyed shortly after 9-11. Newt Gingrich has formally broken off ties to the White House, saying conservatives need to focus on rebuilding their ranks for the 2008 elections. What's a course of action the President can take to win back the graces of the American people?

He could start listening. Listening to his own Joint Chiefs, listening to the Study Group, listen to the generals on the ground, listen to the American people, heck he could even listen to his own "yes" people who are finally not able to "yes sir" him anymore and sleep at night. Republicans who backed him only a year ago are leaving his side like rats leaving a sinking ship. He needs to remove his head from his posterior, and if he's not willing to admit he was wrong to invade Iraq in the first place, at least admit that it has gone horribly wrong. If he begins to listen to anyone other than the echoes in his own head, he might begin to be able to piece together a plan to get us the hell out of Iraq inside of ten years, forget the two or three most people are hoping for. I don't know who will be sitting in the Oval Office in two years, and I don't envy the mess they will have to clean up. I'll just be ecstatic that it is no longer George W. Bush. I'll never approve of Bush, no matter what he now says, but at least I might be able to finally respect the man if he found the character to admit his mistakes.

The election in November clearly proved that there will be no "winning back the graces" of the American people. Sorry. It's a pipe dream.

Chimpy McFlightsuit is the most hated politician in the world. In. The. World. Do you Republicans even understand that? Do you get that? Everything - and I mean everything - that the guy has touched, that his administration has touched, has turned to crap. Everything. Post 9/11. Bombing Afghanistan and Iraq. The deficit and national debt. Katrina. Attempting to destroy (sorry, "privatize") Social Security against the wishes of the vast majority of Americans. Lying to the world about WMDs. The tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, on the backs of the poor and working class. Everything.

Like someone above mentioned, the guy is radioactive. No Republicans running in November wanted to be seen photographed with the guy. Some Republican politicians in November didn't show up if they knew Chimpy was going to be in their local areas. He's radioactive.

The guy is a walking disaster, and the sooner he is gone, the better. Impeachment would be a nice way to go, though. For the war crimes he's committed. For dereliction of duty (Katrina).

As is evidenced by the polls, President Bush is doesn't see which way the wind is blowing before deciding which route to take, unlike his predecessor.

Previous presidents made decisions that were difficult for the people of the time to stomach but later proved to be vindicated later in history for their stand for what they saw as right. Great examples are previous Presidents Lincoln and Truman.

We elect presidents to be LEADERS, not followers of fickle public opinion.

If we don't like the way they lead, we can elect someone that we think would do a better job next time. It is important to look closely at candidates BEFORE they are elected to see how they have behaved in the past NOT what they promise during elections.

So keep that in mind ...we elect presidents to be leaders not people that go whatever way the wind blows!

i presumed Dick Cheney became a smart cracking sock puppet! rattling... i became questioning why that they had provide a puppet a gun liscence. I basically positioned all of it the way down to the horrifically lax gun regulations. even nonetheless, I even tend to think of maximum of George W's cabinet (alongside with himself) are of the puppet like persuasion besides. So i do no longer think it may surely make a difference... till they start up thier own teenagers instruct. wherein case Georgy had greater effective study to hold the books the main remarkable way around.

All he has to do is admit that the Iraq war was wrong and apologize to the parents whose children have died in the war. Maybe take some blame even. That's it!

He should concentrate on the job at hand instead of popularity polls. All those percentages say to me is, 64-67% of Americans have no idea what is happening in the rest of the world. It truly is sad.

JUST GO AWAY. It's too late, it's over. Elway_the's answer was absolutely wonderful! I could be tempted to say something nasty, (like lots of others--I still gave thumbs up except the one about his wife's cancer which is going too far) but the whole debacle is just too tragic.

I think most Americans are tired of the rest of the world looking at us as "Ugly Americans". Bush's foreign policy has isolated us further than any other President, in my opinion.

Make a speech to the American people admitting that he is not up to the job, and that his policies are all failures. Then resign, but first take Dick Cheney "hunting".
