- i'm "tired" of my life: i want something MORE - bigger and better things, i'd rather travel the world than go to parties every weekend

- i'm sick of the "in crowd" and "cliques": i hate people that are soo exclusive and that are into hanging with the same, large group of people every weekend at parties - i only want to spend time with "important" people to me: close friends and family

- i dread school: i feel like i've accomplished nothing in school and badly want to be done soon...it's the most discouraging thing for me right now

- i don't like going to the mall as much anymore: there are way too many people on the weekends, teeny boppers are EVERYWHERE and annoy me so much - and no offense, but i see a lot of peoplei know, and i want to shop in peace - i'm not in the mood to talk

- i long for independence...

so am i depressed? or just growing up?

I think you are just growing up and maturing. You seem like you want change and the good thing is (it sounds like) you're young enough to change it. Take action and do something different on the weekends. Finsh out school and get traveling. There's a whole world out there for you to discover!! Be positive. And on the bright side when you're out of school it doesn't matter who was in the "in crowd" or what "clique" you were a part of.

You 'might' be depressed, but I think you are just growing up and need some significant activities. The things you mentioned are all sort of frivolous social activities. What choices do you have for community service or a real job? If you were doing 'real' work I think a lot of these feelings you are having would disappear. Among other things, you would have less time to be so absorbed in these thoughts, which are not productive.

A desire for independence is a natural drive, and it is a good one. Without it we'd allllll still be living with our parents, which would NOT be a good thing. The important thing is to channel it correctly. For instance, incorrectly channeling this drive would be to flaunt your parents' rules for curfew and behavior at home and by smarting off. A correct channeling of this drive would be to commit yourself to learning self-care skills. Do you do your own laundry? Have a checking account? Know how to figure a tip at a restaurant in your head? Know how to shampoo the carpet and change a tire? Can you plan a menu for a week for your family and buy groceries using a budget? You do sound like you are ready for some changes in your life, but please make sure they are productive changes, and not things that would harm you or sabotage your future.

In addition, for a doctor or other health professional to diagnose depression, most of the following signs and symptoms also must be present for at least two weeks.

3.Sleep disturbances.
4.Impaired thinking or concentration.
5.Changes in weight.
6.Fatigue or slowing of body movement
7.Low self-esteem.
8.Thoughts of death.

the teen/preteen years are extremly hard, so i wouldn't actually label you as a depressed person.

first of all dont think of sucide. your not depressed you just are on a different level of maturity that your peers and your just waitin to go off for indepence and figure things out on your own. college is a good experience and youll meet more mature people who have some of the same intrest as you do. you need to hang in there because eventually it will work out for you. many people have different takes on high school and the people around them. mall advice; go to the mall in the morning or before 1pm. hope things work out for you

No, you are not depressed. It sounds like you are maturing. Whatever you do, don't quit school! It may seem like it a waste now, but out in the real world, a degree counts a lot even if it's not in something you end up wanting to do.
