Which mega crossover event do you think will have a greater long term impact, DC's Infinite Crisis or Marvel's Civil War?

On D.C. 'Events':
Over the years, I've realized the only reason D.C. has an event is to mess with continuity. They want to re-vitalize the Big Three characters, they want something else to happen/not happen in the history of the universe, etc. They've even admitted that they do this sort of thing every 20 years or so just to shake up continuity. But is Superman/Batman/et al really any different, writer/artist input aside? No.

Marvel's events have historically been even worse: big crossover jobs which had little to no impact after a month, for reasons various (somebody else wants to do something with a main character that doesn't jibe with the event, maverick writer/artist chooses to ignore event). Did 'Acts of Vengence' matter in the end? No.

Now: D.C.'s "Infinite Crisis/52". Still feels like business as usual over there, only now they have an evil Superboy to play with before they bring Conner back from the dead - look for that to be part of thier next big event.

Marvel's 'Civil War' has already done a lot of real damage to both heroes reputations (by outing them and making them choose a side) and the way a story can be told about them later on: there is no way to reverse the revelation that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. These and other side events have already changed the Marvel Universe permanently, and I happen to know a few more that will also be permanent.

So, in closing, Marvel's Civil War will have more permanence that Infinite Crisis/52.

Thank you.

infinate crisis was built up to be really big, with 52 following right after as a result, but it has fallen flat, what is the story with batman, no resolution, wonderwoman kills, and is forgotten, it had big build up, but no pay off, while civil war seems to have touched every hero, and things will never be the same, everyone now knows parker is spiderman, iron man will never be accepted by other heros again, cap a criminal, long lasting effects, my money is on civil war, even though i am a dc guy. shawn

Civil War. As much as I love DC comics, lets face it, they throw a monkey wrench into the works every couple months. Everything from dead characters coming back to life often to alternate universes clashing. It's just become expected.
Marvel doesn't make major changes all the time so when they do it's much more notable.

Probably Neither-!!

Look at all the impact from Zero Hour or Atlantis Attacks.
or how about Worlds at War and Onslaught.
and lets not forget ... Year one and Galactic Storm.

these mega-cross overs do nothing for the long run of the characters( long continuing series anyways)
these are short term spikes in sales for the companies and nothing more! Think of how many people buy all these issues and how many are waiting for 'the nesxt big thing'

I would have to say DC's infinate crisis event will have a bigger longer lasting impact for obvious reasons.
