Yes definitely, Ozzie Smith is one of the greatest SS of all time. Omar Vizquel's stats are very similiar.
OMAR:
2472 hits
366 steals
276 average
398 doubles
68 triples
11 Gold Gloves
984 FPCT
18 seasons
OZZIE:
2460 hits
580 steals
262 average
402 doubles
69 triples
13 Gold Gloves
978 FPCT
19 season

I am not a huge fan of putting players in the HoF simply because of their longevity. Vizquel has been a great player but his total numbers are increased by the long years he has played.
Hell, I am the not even sure that Carl Yastzremski should be in the HoF despite his 3000 hits and over 400 HR. Too many of those came when he was old, ineffective and should have been retired.
Lets reserve the Hall of Fame to the absolute top superstars.
Omar = very nice player, but Omar < superstar.

Yes, I do feel that Omar should go to the Hall. His defense at shortstop was only bettered by that of The Wizard, Ozzie Smith. But, because Omar is not known for his power, he will probably get the same treatment that Alan Trammell is getting now. Omar, like Trammell, was not flashy like Ozzie and didn't play a million games in a row like Cal Ripken, so they lose attention from the HOF voters who are looking for what gains revenue instead of what brings fans to love the players and make these guys heroes in their own lives. When a player brings a playing style to the game and it changes the game forever, that is what the Hall Of Fame is for, not for money makers.

If Ozzie is in (first ballot), then, I agree, Omar should join him! BUT, I doubt it will happen since he has never had the charisma of Ozzie or the World Series championship. It shouldn't matter if they are very popular and have a title or two, but it does... for example, Puckett was first ballot, and Mattingly is out? They have pretty similar stats...

Without a doubt. Everytime you watch Omar, you know you are watching the greatest fielding SS of all time. For that alone, he makes the HOF

Once he's been retired long enough to be eligible, absolutely, for his glove alone. But's he's a more complete player now than he was earlier in his career, and the answer is still yes, absolutely so.

yes, i think it's fair to put the best defensive SS ever in the hall also considering SS is the most important defensive position.

No, not even close. He's a good shortstop but I could name a dozen or more that have been better. He's never been much of a hitter either.

no he doesn't! And neither does alot of other athletes that are in there. Hall of Fame used to be a privelage in all sports, now it is just equal to a college fraternity.
