How do you connect sony 2.1 multimedia srs-d21 speakers to?

my PC, does it need software, I have a compaq presario, I have it pluuged into the out plug and NO SOUND, Everyone keeps saying I need software. Is this true???

does your sound system come with cd . set up if so us that
check your sound card plug it in to the speakers port
