If there is a swollen knot in the upper area of my vagina, what could that possibly be? It has a white color to it & it hurts when you put any type of pressure to it. It is bigger than the size of a pencil eraser. It will not pop & it is not filled with any pus. It feels like there is a small ball underneath the skin. I first noticed this about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Before I went to the gyno. it went away, but now it has come back...

Is it about the size of a pea? It could be a Bartholins cyst. This isn't anything to be alarmed about. Try taking a hot bath for a couple of days. Eventually it will "burst" and drain on its own. However, I'm the impatient type and so when I get one, I wait a few days until I know that when I squeeze it (fairly gently), I know that it will pop. Just use some anti-biotic ointment on it. It should clear up quickly. If not, consult with your doctor.

It is most likely a cyst- I have gotten these on my vagina and also in my earlobes. You can get them pretty much anywhere. Just leave it alone- don't try to pop it! It will go away on its own, just give it time. If it gets larger, or doesn't go away, then you should consult a doctor.

If you really have to pop it (you shouldn't!!), then make sure you put antibacterial ointment on it, like Neosporin, so that it does not get infected.

It sounds like an abscess to me. They typically grow in the labia area but can be other places down there. You need to go have it checked out. I have some stories and suggestions for you about it if that is what it turns out to be but you can Im or email me about it. Kinda crude to post here.

It could be herpes, especially if it's painful.
