I have a teddy bear hamster that has a wheel that is like above the whole cage (it is one of those big plastic bulit ones that have alot of things to do). It has a slide that they run up to get to the top but for some reason it is making a nest ( I think it's a male as that is what it was labeled) I can't tell right now as it's too new to allow you to pick it up. Yet do males make nests? As it makes a nest in this wheel (it is all plastic with a few holes in it for the air, and when it runs it sprays all of it's stuff in the nest on the floor. So we had to build a cone shape thing to make it catch everything it puts in there that falls. Any ideas? My main question is do males make nests though. It may help lead to whether or not it was marked incorrectly. As I know they make nests if they are preg.

Would you recommend me keep adding food even though he burrows it? I don't want him to just keep borrowing it until he runs me out of food but I don't want to starve him.

I have a male hamster, and he made a nest. Wild hamsters make burrows, so it's natural for them to do this. My hamster made a big nest in the corner of the cage, and he sleeps in it during the day.

seriously I think u have a female...males dont make a nest that I have ever heard so u should take it to the vet and have the vet identify its gender..and if it is a female u should talk to the pet store u purchased it from and get some answers..it is perfectly normal for the bedding outside its cage they all do that sort of thing they r messy lil critters...good luck

Mine is a female and she did the exact same thing! I got so sick of it that I got rid of that cage and bought her a whole new one with a excercise wheel she wasn't able to make a nest out of....maybe I did that wrong thing but it really bothered.

i had to seperate my hamsters(they weren`t fighting)but i put one of the hamesters in a plastic/metal cage with a bunch of stuff in it an it came with a wheel like yours an it lived in it.it was so annoying b/c when it runs it puts food and nesting materials on the ground just keep taking the materials out of the wheel and he will eventually stop like mine did

Males make nests to sleep in. They sleep all day long. Play all night. An animal after my own heart.

here is another tip...don't wait to long to handle this little fellow..the younger the better...growing up.. my father bought me a male and female for my 7th birthday..it was really sweet of him...but I think he had second thought about this...when we had around 30 of them running around........

best of luck to you........
