Guys...don't be cute here...lol
When did you stop breastfeeding?
What did you use to supplement instead of milk?
If you used formula, what kind/brand?
Really, I'm clueless. I've been breastfeeding for 4 and a half months now. I know this is much more convenient than formula feeding, but ya know, I can't wait to get my body back all to myself!! ( Yes, I know the benefits for my baby girl and me, and she's very healthy.)
Thank you.

I breastfed both of my daughters past the age of three. I didn't have to use formula;by that time, they were eating regular foods and had a balanced enough diet not to need the nutritional supplements in formula.
The American Pediatric Association recommends breastfeeding *AT LEAST* one full year, and as much longer as child & mother are benefitting from it. At that point, if the baby is getting a balanced diet, she doesn't need formula. However, formula is still healthier than milk (it's made to be digested by humans, after all), and if you want to make sure you're covering any nutritional gaps, you can use it.
M'self, I'd stay away from anything by Nestle/Carnation; their ethics in pushing formula on people who don't need it are atrocious. ("Nestle would hire women with no special training and dress them up as nurses to give out free samples of Nestle formula. The free samples lasted long enough for the mother’s breast milk to dry up from lack of use. Then mothers would be forced to purchase the formula but, being poor, they would often mix the formula with unsanitary water or ’stretch’ the amount of formula by diluting it with more water than recommended. The result was that babies starved all over the Third World while Nestle made huge profits from this predatory marketing strategy.")

My wife went for about 5 months. Then we switched to Wal mart brand generic "Parents Choice" or something like that. Half the price and all the same ingredients as Enfamil. I know some of the La Leche breast feeding Nazis think you should breast feed till your kids are 3yo but I would say 1yo is a good jumping off point. In my not so humble opinion.

usually you start when they start getting teeth so 6 months or so!
Many studies have shown that one of the best ways to prevent allergies and asthma is to breastfeed exclusively for at least 6 months and continue breastfeeding long-term after that point.
Breastfeeding can be helpful for preventing allergy by:
reducing exposure to potential allergens (the later baby is exposed, the less likely that there will be an allergic reaction),
speeding maturation of the protective intestinal barrier in baby's gut,
coating the gut and providing a barrier to potentially allergenic molecules,
providing anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the risk of infections (which can act as allergy triggers).

I didn't breastfeed, (although much later, wish I had). My son is 35 now, and has been pretty healthy.
I think I used Similac back then~~~~~
