Just do a search on "Alt keys" and tons of web pages show up telling you all the different codes. You hold down the Alt key while pressing the code into the number pad on the right of the keyboard.

Use windows system found in Start of the computer. It's a writing system, rather fancy and complete. You should be able to find the symbols index. Put it down, and copy&paste it here.
I'm on a new computer, so I'm a little confused myself. In this program, go to insert>symbols or special characters, and you'll find the table.
There's another way of getting the symbols to appear, but you need to memorize the numbers. ¶â£

It very much depends on where you want to post the icons. Could you be more specific? Not every place you get on the web will allow you to do such a manuever.

It's with a font. Like Webdings.
If you type a Y on the font Webdings it makes a heart.

start>all programs>accessories>system tools>character map
and choose from hundreds depending on which font you want. the heart is in arial. alt codes don't work on everyone's keyboard!
