The Celtic cross and the astrology wheel are the ones I just recently learned. I got a book with mine. If you google tarot, most of the things that come up will be trying to sell you cards. If you look through those, you are bound to find some packages that include books for beginners. I found mine very helpful, but even though you may learn more about it, you will find how much more confusing it can be depending on who you learn from. You will find that all astrologers use their own logic. Good Luck!

One of the best ones for learning how to use the Tarot is the "Practical Advice 5-card Layout Spread" -- Lay out 5 cards after you have shuffled them and you feel that you are ready.

The cards go in 1-2-3-4-5 order.
1. Past influence
2. Present influence
3. Major influence
4. Advice
5. Outcome likely if advice is followed

Remember to keep a journal, and write down EVERYTHING that is revealed to you as you practice your readings.

Also remember that if you shuffle the cards and one flies out, that card is IMPORTANT. Keep it to the side, and it will reveal something to you in your reading.

You really should buy a book about the tarot if you want to do readings and feel you have a talent. If you are just playing around, just look around the Internet for some spreads. But remember, the Tarot is real, and it is not a toy. Be careful playing with something that can be very serious.

And one more warning--if you are not serious and know what you are doing, be wary of doing readings for people and giving advice based on Tarot. What you say to people can affect them in ways that you have no way of understanding. People who do readings for others have studied the Tarot for years before they do readings for others.

Good luck!

If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings, spreads or reversals’ of tarot cards from any books.

So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.

To tap in to it more you can go to my free develop-psychic-ability page here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html

But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer.

Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

there are many layouts you can learn. Celtic Cross is a great one, path to a goal is another one, the past present future cards are another great one. There are many many of them. There are many books and sites that you can grab that has all the layouts on them. However, take a piece of advice, go with what you feel is the best for you to use. Celtic cross and the basic four is what I use in readings, but i can do the others if needed in the person's sitting. Go with what you feel you need to use.

I'm fascinated by numerology. I strongly believe that numbers reflect certain aptitudes and character tendencies, as an integral part of the cosmic plan. Each letter has a numeric value that provides a related cosmic vibration. The sum of the numbers in your birth date and the sum of value derived from the letters in the name provide an interrelation of vibrations. These numbers show a great deal about character, purpose in life, what motivates, and where talents may lie.

I think the Celtic Cross is the best one to begin with, but after you've gotten some practice, feel free to try many spreads and even invent some of your own. I came up with a spread I call the Altar that I found really worked well for me, I've been using it in readings for many years.
