I've been wondering this as well, so I went and did some research. There are many websites that list mealworms as an addition to a hamster's diet. Not necessary, but appreciated on occasion.

I know in their wild state that hamsters will occasionally catch and eat a grasshopper or a cricket.

Not usually...hamsters eat a diet of grain and vegetables and the mealworms sold in pet shops are normally intended for reptiles, birds, or large fish. My friend had a hamster that ate mealworms, though...you might try it, however, don't make it its diet.

Yes they do. Although I did have one hamster that was afraid of the meal worms. It was odd.

Hamsters are not carnivores. They might eat meal worms but not good for them and at the least would promote obesity.

Not that I know of. You can try it, it shouldn't hurt the hamster.

Yes, but more as a treat than an actual food.
There's a website for you, hope that helps! =]
