I stayed in Hotel Las Palmas this year in February. If I would have paid cash, I would have paid only $20 a night for a pretty decent room. Since I paid with a credit card, it was still reasonable at $25 a night. It's not a 5-Star hotel but perhaps more like a 3-star hotel. It's in Miraflores, a tourist spot and very close to the beach. Staff was courteous. They have a website too.

I was in Lima last month. I stayed at Hotel Maria Luisa (Miraflores) which costs $25/night. The room had one big bed and had a seperate living room. It is very close to parque Kennedy (same as the Hotel Las Palmas), but I would prefer it over Hotel Las Palmas.

I stayed in the HI hostel http://www.hihostels.co.uk/ in Miraflores. Got a single room for US$15 with breakfast for an extra three soles. Ask them to arrange and they'll arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the airport for US$15. Miraflores is about 45min to an hour from the airport depending on time of day.

I stayed at the Hotel Las America in Miraflores ... it was $50 a night, and lovely. There is a nice grocery store on the corner, and breakfast is included.

Would highly recommend it.

i don't think of there is not any would desire to take antimalerials for those locations - in spite of the incontrovertible fact that in case you head down into the jungle from Cusco or the Sacred Valley, then definite i've got faith this is often recommended. Mosquito do not stay at severe altitude (ie Cusco). be careful at Machu Picchu nonetheless - the sandflies have a bad chew and there are a number of them - ensure you have insect repellent on.
