I´m a graduated language teacher in Venezuela (I teach English as a foreign language), and i´m currently doing a master degree on Applied Linguistics. I´m planning to move to Texas next year. What do i have to do to be a certified teacher there? Is there any institution where i can send my resume by e-mail? I´ve worked at all levels (preschool to university).

Contact a State University in Texas or the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Texas. People at those offices can get you all the information you need.

Don't be surprised if the state requires you to take ALL OF THEIR teacher training classes which might take up to two years to complete. Every state in the USA has different requirements of its teachers and some state require a teacher from one state to take all of its teacher prep classes before issuing a teaching certificate. This can be quite insulting to an educated professional who finds himself or herself starting at the beginning taking methods classes all over again.

You may even be looked upon as OVERQUALIFIED to teach in the public schools in this country. I would suggest looking at teaching in private schools or look for a college or university for teaching opportunities.

If a school district in the USA has a choice between a new teacher right out of teacher training with a stellar record and a teacher with a master's degree with an equally stellar record, the district will go for the beginner with a BA. Why? MONEY. The new grad with a BA will come cheaper.

So, look to private schools and colleges and universities that appreciate your level of education and experience and will be willing to pay for it.

You need to pursue a credential program which is about 10 months in the area in which you would like to teach through a Texas University or accredited online school. You can seek a job and get an emergency credential while employed completing the degree within two years. The credential program includes a 15 week internship.

The credential needs be single-subject, multiple subject or special education. Your master's degree and experience while impressive is not enough.
