Once again, I'm going to answer a question with a question. Why do you want to skip work? If you don't like your job, quit.
Lying to your boss is grounds for dismissal if they ever find out. Even if the real reason they want to fire you is because they don't like your face.
And do you work in a sweatshop, or something? Don't you get vacation time? Tell Mr. Scrooge that you want to visit Antigua, and you're willing to do whatever it takes to catch up on any work you missed while you were gone.
Then ask your coworkers if they'd help you by doing this or that. Then you won't have a giant tsunami of projects upon your return. I would advise not telling the boss about that, though -- you know what happens when they find they don't need you anymore.
When in doubt, tell the truth and call in favors. But you probably won't listen to me anyway.

2 weeks is a serious amount of time off. You would literally have to use the accident excuse. Even a death won't buy you two weeks. With the accident you would need a doctors note, otherwise who'd believe you. Heck, you'd need to be in the hospital because would be wanting to come visit. 2 weeks is way too long for a simple excuse.

Telling the truth is a good practice. I worked with a girl and she wanted to go on a Cruise with her family. She called in and said that her mother was in a car accident, and that she had to fly out of state.
She went on the cruise in the middle of the ocean she had sick, they had to fly her to a French Hospital for emergency surgery's. When the hospital called the insurance department for verification of coverage, the word was out; she lied.
You should know the rest, they could not fire her until she came back to work from her surgery.

How about the truth? Ever consider asking your employer for a personal leave of absence? If your intentions for being out for two weeks are sincere you might be surprised at the response.
If you are simply looking to bag work for two weeks for no good reason, think about getting a conscience.

Either mono or ringworm. A college student where I work go the entire summer vacation off of work by saying he had mono. A friend of mine had ringworm - her doctor said she could go back after a few days but her boss looked it up online and said it could be contagious for months. She got 2 weeks off.
Just make sure your boss won't require a docors note. That could cause a problem.

I wouldn't lie. Just tell them you need the next two weeks for personal reasons. If you have vacation they may make you use that up. But as far as I remember they can not ask why if you state it is personal. You may need to check your employee handbook on time off.

tell them you won a 14 day cruise and that you don't really want to miss work but you just can't pass up the free trip
if they ask to see pictures, tell them someone stole your camera from poolside.
this only works if none of your coworkers know where you live just in case someone doesn't believe you and drives by your house

If the orientation is needed, it particularly is required. learn whilst to be a "group participant", & whilst to no longer. no longer desirous to go, making up a narrative of why you won't be able to go, are indications of immaturity. in case you will constantly "dollar the gadget", you will discover which you have a very troublesome time in existence. particularly of being rebellious, learn how to be a frontrunner, in a favorable way.
