My son has applied to medical schools around the US. He has heard from some (they have scheduled interviews or sent rejection letters) but not all of them. When should he be concerned that he hasn't heard from the remainder of them?

Well, http://medicalstudentblogs.blogspot.com/ is a good source for blogs done by medical students and medical professionals. http://www.studentdoctor.net/diary/ is also a very good source of diary/blog entries from medical students in various stages in their careers.

I am actually in my second year of medical school and I applied three consecutive years before I was accepted (granted, I only really targeted one school and continued to apply until I got in, which is a bad move). So, I do know the procedures relatively well and I've interviewed applicants at my school.

Due to rolling admissions policies and the fact that applicants are usually applying to schools across the country (and don't committ to a school until they are sure they were or weren't accepted at their target schools), many larger schools don't have their entering class filled until late in the Spring. Interviews being scheduled as late as May are not entirely unusual, however, rolling admissions policies suggest those who interview late are competing for fewer spots (so applicants should always apply early). Getting into medical school is extremely difficult and competitive, but if your son is a strong applicant and he casts a wide enough net (applies to 10 or more schools) he should be okay. And, if he doesn't get accepted, he should definitely work to make his application better the next year and do it again. Medical school admissions committees really are looking for people with the determination to stick it out and those who relentlessly work towards succeeding -- and nothing gets that point across better than improving your application and trying again.

The point at which a person should become concerned they haven't heard back from a school really depends, in large part, on when the application was submitted. But, as I stated earlier, late interviews are not unusual, they can just be a little more competitive. Never lose hope that they will request an interview.

Good luck.

www.studentdoctor.net is a great resource for any pre-med, medical student, or any other person in school to be a health professional. As to not hearing from medical schools, some wait until after their deadline to review all the applications at once (I sent my application in to one school 4 months ago and just got notification last week that they're reviewing it). Unfortunately, all you can do is be patient and hope for the best! Good luck!

there is not any important called Pre-med as such. Your important in Pre-med would not actually matter quantity presently. you're able to important in lumberjacking and honestly get in in case you fill the different standards. I never did something somewhat particular in highschool. i became a sturdy pupil yet i became never in the honors function or something. I took an tremendously uncomplicated first help interest path in my very final HS 12 months that did no longer count quantity as credit, i became basically too lazy to do yet another 12 months of volleyball. Doing my senior 12 months of high school choosing technology matters became functional for me because of the fact I have been given in med college greater convenient and did a swifter and greater fee-effective pre-med path. In Mexico you enter med college sparkling out of high school however the occupation lasts greater years. i myself did no longer desire stellar suitable grades or genuine extracurriculars or something to get in. Staying in med college became a distinctive element. Now that may no longer uncomplicated!
