You might have to wait for the balls to drop. A female's vulva is usually lower and closer to the anus than a male's part.

What you do is grab the hamster in one hand, and hold him so that his feet are sticking in the air. Firm, but gently, push down on the lower abdomem with one finger (or two) and look 'down there'. If when you press on the lower stomach something pops out, then it is a boy. Opposite for a girl. I have had hamsters, guinea pig, and rabbits, so I have done this often. I would at least do thi twic, just to make sure that you are 100% sure on the sex of the hamster.

kris55a gave you the right answer - assuming your hamster is mature and not just a youngster! A little hard to tell when they're very young.

Because male hamsters have huge round bulges at the base of their tail...the females do not.

The surest way to tell is by looking at the anogenital distance. This is the distance between the genital openings (penile opening in the male, vaginal and urinary openings in the female) and the anus. This distance is much shorter in females than males (in fact the openings can be difficult to distinguish in females while they are separated by about half an inch in males).

On a female, both poop and pee will be in very close proximity. With a male the two will be more widely seperated. On the male, whate appears as an outty belly button may be apparent, that will be his penis.
