He was being hated before the whole steroids issue, that just made things worse.

He's pretty shady with the media and is notorious for giving them attitude if giving them anything at all. I think they get irritated by him and then they just try to project that image to everyone when they write about him. Then people just adopt that image after reading about it enough and it sticks.

Barry has only himself to blame for his negative image. I think it is sad that a player of his magnitude could not be satisfied with being a great baseball player. Look at his numbers as a Pirate...early in his career, heck, the guy was an exceptional baller with a sweet swing. Then someone introduced him to steroids and he found out that those a few more of those fly ball outs were leaving the yard. It became an obsession. Now baseball seems to think he's disgraced the game, but it isn't him alone. People wonder why the media and everyone hords in on Bonds...well, obviously because he's chasing Aaron the microscope will be intensified when you are breaking records. That's the way it has always been. I don't like Bond's because he cheated and I think cheaters are dispicable. He could be a world class citizen that was a bench player, but if it was ever proven that he used steroids, he bacomes a cheater and therefore not worthy of anyones cheers. I think the media has treated him unfairly, but I don't feel sorry for Bonds at all, I will never pity him.

I’ll give you a great reason why Barry Bonds is a jerk. He came to Philadelphia and the Fans boo the hell out of him. Now I think everyone in the world knows that Philadelphia Fans are the best and worst when it comes to booing (hell they booed the greatest third baseman every on a daily basis). Therefore, instead of taking the booing in stride he lasses out and says this is a great way to raise your kids. This is coming from a man who forced his kids to do things they didn’t want to so the press would leave him alone. I think he was a great talent but he by his own admission cheated to gain an advantage not because it was the only way he could compete but because others who were cheating were stealing the spotlight from him. This not only makes him a cheater but also a terrible person due to the fact that you have to destroy a sport so you can be its star because you weren’t the star anymore. I actually hope he gets everything he has coming to him. Jail, lifetime ban, a tax audit everything. Yes, I know using Steroids wasn’t illegal in baseball, but they were illegal in the US. The rules of Baseball don’t state that kidnapping and raping small children is illegal but the laws in the US say that.

There are 2 reasons: He is a great player and if you're not a Giants fan, you dislike him because he can beat your favorite team. The steroid use and the fact that he may pass Aaron this year make others dislike him.

I believe most people are jealous of his talent. It is just to bad that he, along with many others turned to drugs that improved their performance in their chosen sport. I don't blame Barry for saying he never has used these drugs, but most people know the truth. Why should he be the only one to take all the blame for using drugs. All sports should be blamed for encouraging their use to enhance the game. The big winner here is the owners and backers who are making all the money from the sport while the big losers are the players who are taking all the blame. It stinks......

Ditto what Jeff S. has answered and add the fact that he also held out of a Homerun Derby after being voted in by fans and said the fans don't care about it. He's egotistical and has never played the game for us only himself and thinks the fans and MLB owe him something. There's no doubt he's talented and still has to be able to hit a 90 mph fastball (hardest thing to do in any sport) steroids or not. But play it for the love of the game, not the love of yourself!

I feel that Bonds' attitude and comments on camera make him look very errogant. Things like the way he drops his bat after hitting a home run and the fact that he almost never runs on a ground ball out. Those make fans feel that he thinks he is too good to be an average player. He had a tremendous amount of talent in his early years, but he got old. Now he is just chasing records to gain as much fame as possible before he can't walk anymore.

Because he treats, fans, media, and even teammates like dirt. He was even hated by his team at Arizona State, as he felt he was priviliged being the son of a major leaguer. If you remember he had a whole corner of the Giants clubhouse to himself, with a big-screen tv that was angled so that only he could watch it--from his recliner. Also, when he missed most of 2005, his personal trainer yelled to Giants players to get out of the weight room because Bonds was going to be using it. When one of the players yelled back, the trainer told Bonds who came in and threw a punch. Yeah, Barry's a real classy guy.

I like "Because he is one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game and they're not." That's putting it simply. He's a fairly humble man from what i've seen. He's raising kids, still playing at a high level. Seems to be a pretty good guy to me. So... STEROIDS... look at all the guys that are using steroids... they still can't put up the numbers he does. And hey, he was a great player before using them. I say he's a great guy. It's easy to accuse

So many dislike Barry (Balco) Bonds because, without all the steroids, he is just an average baseball player!
