Yeah that MTV show is really rediculous, 16 year olds getting 10,000 dollar parties and brand new cars... I would just tell them the truth, no normal person has that much money to throw away and the girls on that show are spoiled rotton. If an adult had the nerve to act high and mighty towards me I would probably laugh in their face, because obviously they act more immature then their 16 year old.
When I do have kids I will rasie them to be humble and not depend on material things, regardless of how much money we have.
A realistic sweet 16 party is a couple friends over for a sleepover, and maybe a nice peice of jewerly as a present, or something...
Just as a side note I think new drivers should get used cars because there is a high chance of them getting into an accident.

Well I don't have kids but, since I've seen the show, I'd say 'NO!' the girls turn into little brats (or did daddy's money just let them be born that way?) some of the extremes the girls on the show have gone too make a Super Sweet Sixteen is ridiculous, there should be limits too kids parties, and when parents spend nearly a half a million dollars on a sixteen year olds birthday party, it's sad...

All children deserve the best party you can afford-if you can't spend at least 25,000 on a sweet sixteen you really are not much of a parent!

u can throw ur kid a sweet sixteen, but it doesn't have to cost thousands of dollars. downplay it. if u have a big house, do it there, if not look for cheap rental places (i.e. community centers) get a DJ, which shouldn't be more than $250? for a few hours, and set-up a buffet table with tons of food, nuthin fancy. however, if none of this is possible, funds wise, just tell them. they'll get over it. the kids on MTV make me sick, all that money going to one night for one stupid little brat who already has everything...there are so many people out there who need basic necessary things, and these little bitches whine about having the wrong centerpieces, if i was their parent i would shoot myself, but first i'd change my will so nothing went to the kid...mwa hahaha

If they said they wanted a sweet sixteen, I would buy 16 twinkies and tell them not to eat them all in one place.

If you can afford it.. but those shows seems to be set up for everyone to hate you in a way. But I think Sweet 16's are great. I had one and I know I'll never forget it!

tell them that they can have a sweet sixteen if they pay for it.
Or you can tell them that sweet sixteen is a fictional show about fictional characters doing fictional things.

Well first the show "Sweet Sixteen" that is crap...
it is for richy spoiled, low-life kids...
If I was going to throw my son/daughter one,
I would let her plan but I would oversee it, making sure all the plans run by me first, but of course HE/SHE IS NOT GETTING NO LEXUS, HUMMER, OR NEW CAR...definitely not!

I don't know I think those kids are brats.
I had dinner with my family on my 16th birthday. If my child ever said that they wanted a hundred thousand dollar party for their 16th, I'd tell them that they can pay for it themselves....because face it, teenagers don't appriciate a damn thing you do for them.
