I breastfeed my 2.5 month old, but also give him pumped milk in a bottle. I started with the avent bottles, which are pricey, and he refused to take it. On advice from other mothers, I purchased the playtex nurser with collapsable liner, and he likes it much better. The good thing about it is that it has a soft rubber nipple (which my son preferred over the hard plastic). Also the liner collapses which they say helps the baby ingest less air, and thus get less gas. Also it is conveinent to just use disposable liner and toss it when you're done. You only have to clean the nipple and the ring.
Good luck to you! Also if you have more questions or need advice from other moms, there is a great message board on www.epregnancy.com

I swear by the avent vent air. They are angled and they prevent extra air from getting into the babies tummy. They come completely apart for a thorough cleaning. The nipples seem to be leak proof. I have never had a spill nor has my son choked from getting too much milk. It is as if the milk doesn't come out of the bottle unless they suck!! they are really cool and they come in nice colors. Good luck!

My son has just been broken of bottle-feeding. I tried a few different brands but Playtex Vent-aire did a great job. No bubbles and no vacuum effect in the bottle. They do have and extra "part" so it is slightly harder to wash but I thought it was worth it.

the playtex premium drop ins! get the natural latch nipple (silicon)
you have a fresh sterile bottle every time. the vented bottles are tricky, I would forget to close the vent when done feeding (especially those late-nite feedings when your still half asleep!!) and when I turned the bottle right side up everything left in the bottle came out of the vent! what a pain!!!lol

You don't have to "apologize" for bottle feeding your infant. Not EVERY woman CHOOSES to breastfeed. Breastfeeding just like carrying a pregnancy to term should be a CHOICE made by the women and not by "do gooders" who think they know what is best for HER and HER child. What is best for YOU and YOUR child is what you have chosen and you don't have to apologize for it. I can't help you with the bottles though since last time I bottle fed (I CHOSE not to breastfeed) my daughter was 20 years ago and things have changed. (for me the best bottles on the market usually say "Jack Daniels" LOL)

"Forced" to bottlefeed?
Maybe we can help you figure out a way to breastfeed?
ETA:
You might want to double check the info on the prescription. Many docs don't have the best information on this topic. They check the PDR, which basically says that no medications are safe for breastfeeding. The best source is actually Medications & Mother's Milk by Dr. Hale who is THE expert on drugs and breastfeeding. Don't trust the info you have now unless you KNOW it came from M&MM. I will be glad to check my copy for you.....you can private message me the drug name if you don't want to post it. Or call your local Lactation Consultant or La Leche League Leader and have her check her copy of M&MM for you. There are also very often alternative medications that you can take.

The Avent bottles are only ok. They are expensive. They get grimey after a few months and we have a dishwasher.
