In my opinion, the sooner you start sending out your resume the better.

Waiting until January 15, 2007 may not be such a great idea because the job market can get quite crowded.

Start a plan to dedicate time daily to consistently submit your resume. Don't worry if employers do not cal you back so soon. Remember, one job posting can generate thousands of resume. So use your time also to "fine tune" your resume. Do the same for your cover letter.

Try out this test. Pick up your resume and read it from top to bottom. Time yourself....Did it take longer than 30 seconds to view? If so you may want to condense it a bit. This is the normal time spend an employer or recruiter reviews your resume.

Send blind resumes often. The Internet is not the only sources companies use to find applicants. This is also a great way to get your foot in the door and avoid the crowd.

Hope this info has helped you.

Best of luck with your job search.

Have a Blessed and prosperous New Year!

tsk,
This depends on what your domain is. If you're a techie, then most of the hiring managers would be out vacationing and your resume may not get its due right away. Jan 5 should be a good starting point. Meanwhile, get hold of the names of the hiring managers at each of the organizations you want to apply to. Zap cover letters straight to them and not to anonymous persons. Use their names.
If you're in support functions like HR, finance, etc, then this is the time. Organizations would have hired or offered people in these functions already. You can still take heart and start applying right away!
The reason for this difference is that hiring plans (manpower plans) come into picture during Jan timeframe. Organizations would like recruiters, for example, to be ready to start hiring the moment the hiring plan is released.

Lastly, if you can, find out if the manager who is to hire you is on vacation and for how long. You can time your application accordingly. This will require a couple of calls/emails to your target organizations.

Hope this info helps.
