If I live in texas and I ordered something online at 8:47 and picked Fedex Standard Overnight shipping, would I get it the next day (thursday) or the next next day (friday)?

it depends when the shipper got your package to Fedex *that day*
if yes
unless you live in a remote area then mostly likely you would
recived your package the next day sometime in the afternoon
anytime from about 12 to 4 pm
(but say if package go to the fedex office after a certian hour
(happens at lot at Fedex Kinkos offices) the package would
go on the next days pickup

Depends upon the company you ordered from. Some companies you can order up until 12:00 midnight and get it next day. Here in NYC the last FedEx is 9PM at the main FedEx offices. Your best bet is to check with the customer service of the place you ordered from.
Did you get a tracking number when you ordered? If so, see if you can track it at http://www.fedex.com/
